Static Line Parachuting

solo parachute jumps from 4000ft.

Static-Line Parachuting is an alternative method of getting qualified to the Accelerated Freefall course. One full day of ground-training is all that is required to carry out your first solo parachute jump from 4,000ft.

Your parachute opens automatically by a ‘static-line’ which is attached to the aircraft (so there is no freefall involved initially). You can then fly and land the canopy yourself.
As you progress through the parachute training system you can start freefall skydiving from your sixth jump, gradually jumping from higher altitudes.

All your skydives are on your own, i.e. solo. However you will be supervised by an BPA sky diving Instructor on exit and on later descents an instructor will follow you out of the aircraft to observe your exercises.

Static Line Parachuting Cost:

  1. Static Line Parachute First Jump course : includes one full day of training and the first parachute descent. £200

Static Line Parachuting is also an ideal activity for groups and we can offer corporate packages for team building exercises as well as groups activities for Military Preparation Courses, Explorer Scouts , Sixth Form Colleges and other organisations looking to enable young people to expand their horizons.

If you would prefer to learn to skydive using a more intensive training method, then why not take a look at Accelerated Freefall. Or if you’re not sure that a solo jump is right for you, then try a Tandem Parachute Jump first.

What does static line parachuting involve?

Before you can jump you need to take part in an intensive day of ground-training with one of our BPA qualified instructors. Courses are taught in groups of up to 12 people and are ideal for groups of friends, corporate, team building or charity events as well as individuals.

For learning to solo skydive the minimum age is 16 years and the maximum age is 55 years. If you are aged between 16 and 18 you must obtain a parent or guardians consent, on BPA form 106 (Parental Consent).

If you have any medical conditions (i.e. diabetes, epilepsy, fits, recurrent blackouts, heart or lung disease, mental illness, asthma or shoulder dislocation) or will be aged between 40 and 55 on the day of your first jump, you must consult your GP to sign and stamp the BPA medical form 114-A(i) “Solo Student Parachutist Declaration of Fitness”. These forms are available on request, from our website, or will be sent to you with confirmation once a booking has been confirmed.

The initial full day of ground-training takes place on selected Fridays dates. The ground training can be both mentally and physically tiring and it’s best to start fresh in the morning. Initially we ask students to commit to the 2-days. The parachute jump itself will take place on the following day weather permitting, or you have one month within which to return and complete the jump.

Why not do tandem skydiving or parachute jumping for charity? You can raise money whilst having fun at the same time! Choose from a list of charities we currently work with or suggest one that is close to your heart and we will make the necessary arrangements. Skydiving is considered an extreme sport, not something for the faint hearted and so worthy of you asking your friends and family to sponsor you!

the full bpa progression system

The BPA system is organised into Categories 1 to 8 and require a minimum of 18 jumps to be completed.
All parachute training is given by British Parachute Association Instructors teaching to BPA standards and is included in the price of the skydives.. Because you are building on what you have already learnt in the initial ground school, the training for each of the new jumps takes less than an hour and so you can now make several jumps per day, weather permitting.

Categories 1 to 2 : Ground School + minimum 2 static line jumps

The training day prepares you for the first jump. A Static-Line is used on exit to deploy the main parachute automatically, but allows you to demonstrate a good exit, body position and safety count as you leave the aircraft. You should expect to jump from around 4000ft.

Category 3: Dummy Ripcord Pulls : Minimum 3 jumps

The parachute is still deployed by a static line but now ‘dummy ripcord pulls’ are used to simulate a freefall exit and canopy deployment by practicing opening your parachute with a ‘pretend’ ripcord. Once these simulations have been demonstrated successfully and consistently, then your instructor will approve your first freefall skydive.
We offer a 6-jump package to take you to this point. Due to BPA safety regulations your first freefall jump must be completed within 24 hours of your previous jump.

Categories 4 to 6: It’s time for your first freefall solo skydive! Minimum Jump #6

These skydives involve freefalling and opening the main parachute at a predetermined time after leaving the aircraft (known as a delay). The first freefall delay is three seconds, after which both in time and exit altitude increase with each successful performance until a 15-second delay is reached and you have learnt to correctly use your altimeter. You should expect to complete at least 6 jumps including 1 x 3 second, 1 x 5 second, 2 x 10 second and 2 x 15-second delays.
Once you reach these longer delays you will be experiencing terminal velocity and freefalling at 120mph towards the earth.

Category 7: Minimum 1 jump

Starting with controlled 360 turns, maneuvers in freefall are now introduced. Around this point, you’ll receive further canopy control training helping you achieve your Canopy Handling (CH1) certificate.

Category 8: Freefall Skills – Minimum 5 jumps

Once you can maintain and change your direction in freefall you can start having some real fun in the sky jumping from full altitude of 10,000ft. You will learn new skills including how to exit the aircraft in an unstable position and recover, dive exits, tracking (moving forwards) and track turns.

Qualification jump

In order to be awarded an A-Licence as a British Parachute Association qualified skydiver, you will need to complete the final stage qualification jump. You must perform every maneuver on a single skydive from 10,000 feet showing control, precision, and awareness throughout.

Apply for your skydiving A-Licence

Once you have completed all the requirements our Chief Instructor will sign your application form and you can send this off to the British Parachute Association along with a photo and £10 application fee – they will send you back a small red hardback FAI licence book into which further parachuting licences and qualifications can be added.
Kindly note that progression through the parachuting categories is entirely dependent upon the students abilities .

Currency

We want you to progress through the course, but it does require some commitment and determination on your part, especially in the face of adverse weather conditions. It is vital that you jump regularly and frequently returning to us to refresh your training at least once a month, and jumping at least once every two months. We understand that sometimes life gets in the way, but in the event that you have left a long period of time between jumps we are required to carry out additional training for which there is a charge. After 3 months you will have to re-sit the full ground school. Full details will be provided when you start your course with us.
